Dear Mr. Paddy,
Do you have a girlfriend?
_____________________________________
Sadly, I don't currently have a girlfriend:(
My childhood sweetheart had trouble understanding my political ambitions. She wasn't able to see why I couldn't just stay back on the ice floe and hatch babies like all the other male penguins...it tore me up...but I couldn't just stick my head in the snow.
I've also made a commitment not to start dating during the campaign. The schedule is grueling enough and the reporters are relentless. They would try to describe it as some cheap gimmick to get publicity. The relationship would be doomed from the start.
Once I win the election, however, I plan to get back in the dating circuit. If you're willing to wait, slip me your phone number in January 2009 and maybe I can have the White House chef whip up a private dinner for the 2 of us.
Please keep those burning questions coming! The answers are out there!

Paddy's Thoughts on Globalized Health Care
"Anonymous" sent in this question:
To the Esteemed Paddy,
What do you think about globalized health care?
----------------------------------------------------
I love this question because our globe clearly needs health care! I'm all for it!
As you already know, real health care starts with each of us. Eat that fiber; drink more sardine slurpees; go for a long swim; say "hi" to people; open a door for someone; walk to work. (I must admit that is one of the perks of being in the White House. You can claim you walk to work every morning:)
Healthy individuals create healthy planets.

Paddy's Thoughts on The Great Political Divide
"Anonymous" sent in this question:
Dear Paddy,
How do you feel about the great divide between the political parties in this country? Can't we all just get along?
---------------------------------------------------
This question reminds me of the chilly buns I used to get standing 6 months straight through a dark winter night with sub-zero temperatures and a howling wind. The main 2 parties tend to treat each other with the same bun chill. The only thing that helped us penguins get through was huddling together to stay warm and cozy. I'd like to see a little more warmth and coziness between the parties too. We can do amazing things when we work together.

On the Paddy Campaign Trail - Aug 12, 2007
My campaign staff and I have been on a retreat at Camp Snowmelt working on our campaign strategy. We're in this to win!
After going through all the issues and our positions on the issues we have decided the best thing we can do is to revitalized a currently out of vogue political tactic. Speak simply, tell the truth, talk about the issues that matter, and focus on solutions rather than sound bites.
For example what is our position on Fast Food restaurants?
Well I watched the movie "Super Size Me" and I had a mixed reaction. Penguins aren't squeamish about regurgitation like humans but boy you just can't get around the health issues. What I propose doing is making a big deal about this during my campaign.
After the campaign one of my paid advisers, who has been itching to go into the restaurant business, will start a new drive-thru chain called McHealthy's. We believe that with only minor (and perfectly legal) inferences about this new chain being "Paddy's favorite place to eat" business will skyrocket. Then the $10 investment I'm contributing to the start up cost will turn into a seven figure IPO retirement bonanza. Did I mention this is all perfectly legal?
How's that for complete disclosure? Talk about campaign trail honesty!
We'll be back with more on the Paddy wagon soon.

Response to: What are Paddy's thoughts about the other presidential candidates?
I don't spend a lot of time looking over my shoulder at the other guy or gal (that's for you Hillary). If they want to pitch in to help the fight on global warming then they're tops in my book.
On the other hand, if they are more into themselves, what they wear...their hair...and looking the part rather than taking part, I would rather they go back to their home town and open a day spa.
This country needs connection - connection to itself, to our neighbors across the street and across the world. I believe we can regain the United in United States. We can take on the big issues that our kids study in school rather than be driven by visceral responses to the issue de jour that happened to be examined under the hourly CNN microscope.
Penguins believe that greatness lies in what you choose to do and what you choose not to do. I choose to spend my personal energy on the cause of global warming.
Please support my candidacy through the purchase of a Paddy4President bumper sticker at http://www.penguingiftshop.com/Paddy-4-President-Bumper-Sticker-p-420.html

Campaign Trail - July 30th Week
Hello Paddy Supporters,
It was an exhilarating week on the campaign trail. I got my blog going, created my first campaign video on YouTube -Paddy Announces Presidential Candidacy- and launched my bumper sticker sponsorship drive Paddy 4 President bumper sticker.
I even managed to dodge those invectives (big word for a penguin I can tell you) bouncing between the more "main stream" candidates. Let's face it, we all make mistakes. I remember that time that I tripped over an egg...but...I'm losing focus.
Who gets to decide "what looks presidential"? Who gets to pick the acceptable topics to debate? If we, the candidates, aren't answering the questions you want answered...speak up! Ask that burning question and decide for yourself who provides the best leadership. I invite you to ask me whatever is on your mind with the promise that I will make my best effort to answer all relevant questions.
By the way, I would really appreciate your support for inclusion in any future Presidential Debates. So far I feel a little blocked out. I'm not really complaining. I understand the motivation but don't you owe it to yourself to hear a fresh voice. Like my bumper sticker says, "it's time for a new breed".
More videos are coming soon!

A Little About My Background
There isn't really much to tell. I was fortunate to be brought up by a couple of loving parents. My father's name was Ward, boy was he cool! My mother's name was June and she always provided great loving support.
I was born in the Emperor Rookery at Penguin Gulch, Antarctica. After mom laid me, my dad took over most of the work until I was hatched. I guess you could say he was a very involved parent.
Those first few years were filled with a lot of fun and excitement. I still remember my first swim... Boy was I scared. I took that big leap from the ice shelf not even knowing if I could swim and hoping that there wasn't anything dangerous down there.
I guess you could say I was pretty average for a young penguin. I couldn't sing, dance or surf (unless you count my awesome body surfing which I would do for hours as a kid.) If anything, I was kind of a geek. I was slow to get my adult plumage and I was always a little skinny and awkward.
I feel great about myself now. However, there is one awkward issue I need to address for my presidential candidacy. I'm not married. The truth is, I just haven't found "Ms. Right".
Most of my buddies, long-ago, married their rookery sweethearts. But I'm not looking for another pretty face; for that perfect yellow accent coloring or gorgeous plumage. I'm looking for that gal whose sole wants to melt into a relationship of love and caring for each other and our planet and all its creatures. I know she's out there...
During those tough adolescent years I developed a budding interest in learning about the world I lived in. (Six months of dark and blowing snow gives you lots of time to think about things.) It was at the end of one of those winters that I became keenly aware of our environment.
As you might imagine, that first spring swim is a very exciting time after standing so long huddled together with the rest of the clan. I wasn't really paying attention as I rushed toward the edge of the shelf anticipating the rush of cold water. Then whooooosh, I was dropping through the air and hitting the water so hard it knocked the wind out of me. The shelf had ended about 100 yards earlier than it had ever ended since I was born.
There was a tumble of Emperor penguins in similar condition all around me. I ended up being one of the lucky ones because somehow I made it back on the ice. Many close friends were lost to predators in their weakened condition. This was my first exposure to global warming and it became my life's mission and passion.
I attribute so much to mom and dad. They were the ones that encouraged me to understand the things I cared about and not to be afraid to work to change the world. Without them I wouldn't be running for the presidency today. Thanks mom! Thanks dad!

Paddy Announces Run For President
Fellow Americans,
I would like to announce my candidacy for the President of the United States. I am doing this after much support and encouragement from my friends, family and unbiased paid political advisors.
I hope you support my candidacy.
My platform is simple. I believe I am the one, true environmental candidate.
After all, isn't it time for a new breed?
Please send me your questions and I will try to respond to the questions of merit and relevance.
Also, I would appreciate your financial support for my campaign. My entire funding will come from the sale of bumper stickers and similar campaign items at the http://www.penguingiftshop.com/.
Big money and big decisions aren't the answers to life's real problems. The answers are part of us all. I hope you join me in finding them and making this a fun campaign season.
Thanks,
Paddy
